Introduction to Feng Shui

Do you feel happy and fulfilled?  Are you motivated and thriving?  In order to transform your life you must first start at home, by creating a living environment that supports you and expresses who you are.  When your home supports you, your energy level increases and you feel empowered to reach your goals.  Whether you have simple or extravagant taste, live in a large house or a small apartment, you will benefit from bringing the art of Feng Shui into your home and into your life.

Now more than ever we are becoming more mindful of our health and wellbeing. We are making changes to our lifestyles by introducing healthy diets, exercising more, and trying to minimize stress. We have altered the how we are living, but we often overlook and neglect the where we are living: OUR HOMES. Often we don’t realize the extent to which our living environment affects our attitude and overall health.  When you walk in the door of your home, do you feel like you’ve returned to a safe, stress-free, nurturing environment? Or are you hit with more stress in the form of clutter, or more importantly, a house that doesn’t feel like home?

Feng Shui (Fung Schway) is a form of interior design that creates a positive, nurturing, and supportive living environment that empowers you to achieve your goals.  It has been practiced in China and around the world for thousands of years.  Feng Shui adds a deeper, more meaningful layer to traditional interior design. It creates a feeling of balance and harmony with color, light, furniture placement, art, and the presence of natural elements.

The main purpose of Feng Shui is to arrange a space so that the natural energy can flow evenly and create a feeling of balance and tranquility.  As long as the energy in our home or office is flowing and circulating freely, it will nourish us and enable us to lead happy, healthy, and inspired lives. However, if our environment becomes uncomfortable, cluttered, cramped, or blocked, the energy becomes stagnant and in turn, creates a negative effect in our lives.

Because the free flow of energy is so vital to our health and well being, one of the first things that will be discussed is energy blocks, such as clutter. The idea is simple. It’s actually been scientifically proven that clutter causes stress. We may feel stress in our lives, but not associate it with the state of our homes. But consider this: If your house is cluttered and disorganized, how does it make you feel? Do you feel positive and uplifted? Or does your energy level immediately drop at the sight of it?  Eliminating clutter = inviting new opportunities.  By removing clutter from our home and/or office we are opening up pathways and allowing new things to come into our lives.

Having clutter is not the same thing as being a little messy.  Clutter is described as:

  • Anything that is not regularly used in your current life
  • Unfinished or “dead” projects
  • Broken objects or appliances
  • Unwanted gifts, objects held onto out of guilt
  • Anything that is NOT cherished or loved
  • Anything that creates sad, mad, or hurt feelings when looked upon

When we find obstructions or energy flow problems in your home we can relate them directly to personal blocks you may be experiencing in your life, such as, issues with relationships, health, career, wealth, communication, clarity or stress.  We do this by referring to The Bagua. The Bagua is, quite literally, a map.  By overlaying the floor plan of your house with this map we can explore how your home is affecting different aspects of your life and in turn, remedy any problems that might be occuring. I will elaborate more thoroughly during your consultation.

Most of us know how we want our house to look, and more importantly, how we want our home to feel, but we get stuck in the execution. Working with Clesson Brook Designs will simplify the process. You can work together to create a home that reflects who you are. By incorporating Feng Shui into the interior design process, Jennifer Heilman creates designs with meaning that reflect who you are as an individual and support you in every aspect of your life.  You’ll discuss spatial flow, furniture choices, furniture layout, paint color, flooring, area rugs, lighting, positive art choices, accessories, and natural elements.   Whatever your needs are, it is Jennifer’s intention to bring positive change to your life by making simple adjustments to your living and/or working environment.
